Lesson Transcript

Hi, everybody! I’m Henrik from GermanPod101.com.
Do you know how to say “I love you” in German? In this lesson, you'll learn three different ways to say "I love you" and a special phrase for Valentine's Day.
Let’s start with the most common phrase.
Ich liebe dich.
[slowly] Ich liebe dich.
“I love you.”
If you want to be less direct, you can use this phrase.
Du bedeutest mir sehr viel.
[slowly] Du bedeutest mir sehr viel.
It means “You mean so much to me.”
Now if you want to be more romantic in expressing your love for someone, you can say this phrase.
Worte können meine Liebe zu dir nicht beschreiben.
[slowly] Worte können meine Liebe zu dir nicht beschreiben.
It means "Words can't describe my love for you."
Now you know 3 different ways to say "I love you" in German! And here's one more. What if you want to spend Valentine's Day with someone special? In that case, say this phrase.
Möchtest du mein Valentin sein?
"Will you be my Valentine?"
[slowly] Möchtest du mein Valentin sein?
Use this to mean "Will you be my Valentine?"
Let's wrap up this lesson by recapping what we've learned. Listen to the expression and repeat after me.

On Valentine's Day, lovers present something to each other in German. The most important symbol of this day is a red heart, or Rotes Herz in German, which hangs in many shop windows. They also adorns greeting cards with inscriptions like "For you," or Für dich, and "I love you," or Ich liebe dich.
You just learned how to say “I love you” in three different ways in German and one special phrase for Valentine's Day. And...
I’ll see you next time. Bis zum nächsten Mal!

NO! Learning 3 ways to say "I love you" in German is NOT a good review for the beginners videos.
