INTRODUCTION
Sydney: Hi everyone, I'm Sydney.
Albert: And I'm Albert.
Sydney: And welcome to Must-Know German Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 6. Talking About Your Habits.
Sydney: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for discussing one's habits.
PATTERN
Sydney: For example,
Sydney: "I go every Saturday to the supermarket."
Albert: Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Albert: [slow] Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Sydney: The pattern for discussing one's habits has four elements. First, the pronoun for "I."
Albert: Ich.
Sydney: Second, the verb for "go" in the first person indicative present.
Albert: gehe.
Sydney: Third, the pronoun for "every."
Albert: jeden.
Sydney: And last, the complement meaning "Saturday to the supermarket."
Albert: Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Sydney: Altogether, we have... "I go every Saturday to the supermarket."
Albert: Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt. [slow] Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt. [normal] Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Sydney: In German, you can talk about your habits by using the pronoun for "I" in the beginning and then putting the verb in the first person indicative present tense right after it. You then need to use the word for "every" and conclude it with a complement in the end.
Albert: Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Sydney: So remember, to describe your habits just use a pronoun, then a verb followed by "every", and conclude it with a complement.
Sydney: Here is another example meaning, "I travel every summer to Bavaria." First, the pronoun for "I."
Albert: Ich.
Sydney: Second, the verb for "travel" in the first person indicative present.
Albert: reise.
Sydney: Third, the pronoun for "every."
Albert: jeden.
Sydney: And last, the complement meaning "summer to Bavaria."
Albert: Sommer nach Bayern.
Sydney: Altogether we have...
Albert: Ich reise jeden Sommer nach Bayern. [slow] Ich reise jeden Sommer nach Bayern. [normal] Ich reise jeden Sommer nach Bayern.
Sydney: "I travel every summer to Bavaria."
[pause]
Albert: Ich reise jeden Sommer nach Bayern.
Sydney: How do you say โ€” "I swim every day for 500 meters." To give you a hint, "500 meters" is...
Albert: 500 Meter. [slow] 500 Meter. [normal] 500 Meter.
Sydney: "I swim every day for 500 meters."
[pause]
Albert: Ich schwimme jeden Tag 500 Meter. [slow] Ich schwimme jeden Tag 500 Meter. [normal] Ich schwimme jeden Tag 500 Meter.
[pause]
Albert: Ich schwimme jeden Tag 500 Meter.
REVIEW
Sydney: Let's review the sentences from this lesson. I will give you the English equivalent of the phrase and you are responsible for shouting it out loud in German. Here we go.
Sydney: "I go every Saturday to the supermarket."
[pause]
Albert: Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
[pause]
Albert: Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Sydney: "I travel every summer to Bavaria."

Outro

Sydney: Okay. That's all for this lesson. You learned a pattern for discussing one's habits, as in...
Albert: Ich gehe jeden Samstag in den Supermarkt.
Sydney: meaning "I go every Saturday to the supermarket."
Sydney: You can find more vocab or phrases that go with this sentence pattern in the lesson notes. So please be sure to check them out on GermanPod101.com. Thanks everyone, see you next time!
Albert: Bis zum nรคchsten Mal!

How about providing a refresher course or sheet sheet on English grammar in general. I honestly have to lookup all the English grammar terms before I can make sense of the German ones your are explaining. Or provide examples of the English grammar terms. Thanks
