I am from Lower Saxony.

Ich komme aus Köln.

I am from Cologne.

I am from Bavaria.

Instead of the region of Germany like North or South,

Germans usually say the federal state they're from.

Since Germany only has 16 federal states,

usually every German knows where you're from then.
