nichts can be seen as "es" so you need third person singular. => es geschieht
in the second part the person is given: sie. Also thrid person singular. => sie beantwortet.

The time could be any but the structure of the sentence is mostly used to state things that are usually true. In that case you use present tense. Besides I would always use present tense if not otherwise stated.

I have seen some websites (in German) that have such fill-in-the-blank text. For all sorts of things. for articles, tenses, cases,.. Does your book have that too?

Yes it does. After each short lesson there are at least 40 or more fill in the blank questions.

I always force myself to write out the entire sentences for practice.

Here's another example:

Complete the following conversations with the correct forms of the auxiliary verbs given.

Das _______ (können)______ (sein), aber zuerst _________(müssen) ihr eure Arbeit _________ (machen).

Now, in the first clause since there is no noun or pronoun should it always be assumed that it is in the 3rd person singular?

Thus it's:

Das kann sein, aber zuerst ihr eure Arbeit machen musst.

Am I correct?

How about this one:

Is the following the correct form?

Ich möchte ins Theater gehen, aber ich meine kranke Tante besuchen muss.


Here's one I missed based upon the answer key:

Sollt ihr nicht euer Zimmer raumen auf?

Evidently it was "aufräumen"....should I assume these separation verbs are not separated when used with a modal?
