Hi Art,

The difference is in the pronunciation.

If you go to our dictionary and you enter "schon", you will be

given several versions of both "schon" and "schön". Play the

recordings and listen carefully.

And don't get frustrated if you have problems keeping them apart at first.😉

I know from experience that many foreigners have problems with German

"Umlauts".

Thank you.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Kind regards,

Reinhard

Good. Run the difference between schon and schon again. (This keyboard doesn't have an Umlaut) How can you tell the difference with out seeing it? Just listening.

Hi Mike,

it is "Ich wäre gerne dabei gewesen", not "Ich würde gerne dabei gewesen." The last one sounds weird.

Ich wäre means "I wish I could have been", while "würde" is translated like "I would".

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm completely confused by wäre and würde. In the sentence "Schön, ich wäre gerne dabei gewesen!" why is it wäre and not würde.

Thankyou for any help.
