Eric: Expressions That Don't Make Any Sense, Part 2
Eric: Hi everyone, and welcome back to GermanPod101.com. I'm Eric.

Eric: This is Must-Know German Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 22. In this lesson you'll learn more expressions that don't make any sense. Germans use these phrases in many common situations, especially when they want to exaggerate a bit.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Jennifer: Von Pontius nach Pilatus.
Jennifer: Asche auf mein Haupt.
Jennifer: Katz und Maus spielen.
Jennifer: Hand aufs Herz legen.
Eric: Jennifer, what's our first expression?
Jennifer: Von Pontius nach Pilatus.
Eric: Which literally means "from pillar to post." It has the same meaning as the identical English expression.

Eric: This literally means "ash on my head." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "shame on me."

Eric: Which literally means "playing cat and mouse." It has a similar meaning to the identical English phrase.
