Eric: Expressions that Involve Food
Eric: Hi everyone, and welcome back to GermanPod101.com. I'm Eric.

Eric: This is Must-Know German Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 20. In this lesson you'll learn some expressions that involve food.
Eric: Don't be surprised when you hear Germans using these phrases during regular conversations, or when they encounter difficult problems in life.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you’ll be learning in this lesson are:
Jennifer: Senf dazugeben.
Jennifer: In den sauren Apfel beißen müssen.
Jennifer: Wie Pilze aus dem Boden schießen.
Jennifer: Die Suppe auslöffeln.
Eric: Jennifer, what's our first expression?
Jennifer: Senf dazugeben.
Eric: This literally means "to add some mustard to it." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to say one’s opinion without being asked."

Eric: This literally means "like mushrooms which shoot up from the ground." When it's used as a slang expression, it means "to spring up like mushrooms."
