INTRODUCTION
Eric: Common Slang Expressions used by Young Adults
Eric: Hi everyone, and welcome back to GermanPod101.com. I'm Eric.
Jennifer: And I'm Jennifer!
Eric: This is Must-Know German Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 2. In this lesson you'll learn common slang expressions used by young adults. These expressions are commonly used by young people, but can also be used by more mature people.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Jennifer: Einen Kater haben.
Jennifer: Auf Teufel komm raus.
Jennifer: Das kommt mir nicht in die Tüte.
Jennifer: Ins kalte Wasser geworfen werden.
Eric: Jennifer, what's our first expression?
Jennifer: Einen Kater haben.
Eric: Literally meaning "to have a cat." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to have a hangover."
Jennifer: [SLOW] Einen Kater haben. [NORMAL] Einen Kater haben.

Eric: Use this slang expression when you drank too much last night and want to say you have a hangover. The pronunciation of
Jennifer: “Kater"
Eric: is similar to the pronunciation of an ancient medical term "catarrh." This word referred to a diffuse disease associated with cough, rhinitis, malaise and headache. Let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: Which literally means "on devil come out." As a slang expression, it means "by any means necessary."

Eric: Use this slang expression when any means possible should be taken to accomplish the goal. Now let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: "You shouldn't always do everything by hook or by crook."

Eric: Literally meaning "this will not come into my bag." When it's used as a slang expression, it means "this is completely out of the question."
