Hi Darren,


"reden" is comparable to "to talk" and "sprechen"

would translate to "to speak", and the meaning and how these two words

relate to each other is more or less the same as in English, too.


"sich unterhalten" has a slightly more personal touch. When you say:

"Zwei Menschen sprechen miteinander.", it could be about work or private/intimate matters.

"Zwei Menschen unterhalten sich.": Here the topic is more likely a personal one.


With your last question, I am not sure if I do understand right because your spelling is a little off.

In case you are referring to the words "erfahren" and "kรถnnen", erfahren is "to learn" in the context above,

"kรถnnen" on the other hand means "to be able to".
