Hi everyone! I’m Alisha. |
Welcome to Conversational Phrases! |
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations. |
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you doing during the holiday?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to talk about your holiday plans. |
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases! |
Listen to the dialogue. |
Was machst du am Pfingstmontag? |
Ich plane, an den Strand zu gehen. |
Once more with the English translation. |
Was machst du am Pfingstmontag? |
“What are you doing for Whit Monday?” |
Ich plane, an den Strand zu gehen. |
“I'm planning to go to the beach.” |
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you doing for Whit Monday?” |
That's: Was machst du am Pfingstmontag? |
Whit Monday is a religious holiday that falls on the Monday after Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the earliest members of the Christian church. |
Listen to it again: Was machst du am Pfingstmontag?, Was machst du am Pfingstmontag? |
“What are you doing for Whit Monday?” |
Now, how do you answer this question? |
The pattern is: |
Ich plane, [plan]. |
“I’m planning to [plan].” |
For example: |
“I'm planning to go to the beach.” |
Ich plane, an den Strand zu gehen., Ich plane, an den Strand zu gehen. |

Hi,
Nice Lesson but have a suggestion. Can you please add more examples to the dialogue? We have 2 examples.
- And in the lesson transcript, can you correct the lesson transcript?
In the above text, 'First of all you'll need to learn how to say “How's your mother?” ' should be '“What are you doing for Whit Monday?”', unless I'm missing something
