Cultural Insight
Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Albert: If someone that you didn't expect is knocking at your door in Germany, the common question you can ask is Wer ist da? before opening the door. This literally means "Who is there?"
The very casual way to ask this question is Wer? which is much more informal but can be used, but only if your tone is cheerful. Otherwise, it will sound a bit rude!

Outro

Eric: And that’s all for this lesson. Don’t forget to check out the lesson notes, and we’ll see you in the next lesson!

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for taking part in our forum.

Please allow me to suggest a few tiny little changes to your sentence:

"Meine Frau ist/sitzt/steht neben mir." My wife is/is sitting/is standing beside me.

or "Meine Frau ist in der Nähe." My wife is nearby.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Hi David,

You´d rather say:

"Gina ist meine Freundin. Sie sitzt jetzt neben mir."
