use of 'fehlen'

Sentence from lesson 10 for beginners:
'Es fehlen noch mehrere Sachen.' (Several things are still missing.)

Can anyone explain please why the verb here is in infinitive form?

Hi!

Because "fehlen" in this case belongs to "mehrere Sachen" - plural!

"mehrere Sachen fehlen", but "eine Sache fehlt"

!
