Intermediate lesson #10 “Sonneâ€

Postby steelafan36 » November 3rd, 2009 4:56 pm

In the line "Die Sonne scheint mir aus den Augen", how come its "mir" and not mein? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I jumped from the beginner S1 series to this because I'm a Rammstein fan.

"mir" is "to me", Dative. In German, it's sometimes equivalent to say "Die Sonne scheint mir aus den Augen" or "Die Sonne scheint aus meinen Augen". In this case, the former goes better with the rhythm of the song.
