Eric: Expressions to Describe Pulling Something Out of your Sleeve
Eric: Hi everyone, and welcome back to GermanPod101.com. I'm Eric.

Eric: This is Must-Know German Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 14. In this lesson you'll learn expressions to describe pulling something out of your sleeve.
Eric: You’ll often hear Germans use these phrases when they are stuck with a problem and find a last-minute solution.

Eric: Jennifer, what's our first expression?
Jennifer: Etwas aus dem Ärmel schütteln.
Eric: This literally means "to pull out something out of the sleeve." It’s similar to the English expression “to pull something out your sleeve,” or “to pull something out of the bag.”

Eric: Which literally means "to tear something out from the nose." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "tear answers out of someone."

Eric: Literally, this means "to come on the funnel." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to get the hang of something."
