Learn German with GermanPod101.com! You are flying to Berlin and know it will be a long flight. But who says you have to keep to yourself? You just have to wait for the right time to speak to the German man sitting next to you. Because it is polite in German to wait until an elder speaks to you, you wait. When the man finally speaks to you, you are eager to practice your German speaking skills with him, but formally (seeing as you just met). He asks you in German, “Where do you live?” You also reply in German, “I come from Washington.” The man explains in German, “I live and work in Berlin.” As the conversation gets going, you end up asking him in German, “You live and work in Berlin, but where did you come from?” Smiling, he replies in German, “Aren’t you observant? I come from Leipzig. I was vacationing in Canada.” Before you know it, you both have learned quite a bit about each other…oh, and the plane is descending just as the conversation got going!
