Learn German with GermanPod101.com! After exchanging your money at a German currency exchange, you see a sign for a German tour that you really want to go on. Checking the time, it is somewhat earlier than you would normally be up and about, so maybe a wakeup call wouldn’t be a bad idea. Approaching your German hotel’s front desk, you request a wakeup call for the next morning. You tell the receptionist in German, “I shall need to be woken up at seven in the morning please.” After thinking about it for a moment, you correct yourself in German and say, “Let’s make it six thirty instead, please.” Missing this tour because you couldn’t wake up would really upset you. Learn German with GermanPod101.com! You are spending the day sightseeing in Germany. Because you are a fly-by-the-seat of your pants type of person, you decided ahead of time not to book a hotel room in the first German city you are stopping in, thinking it would be better to book a room once you arrive in a city you want to spend some time in. Big mistake! Before checking in, you ask the hotel clerk in German, “Do you have Internet service in the rooms?” She replies in German, “No, but there are computers in the lobby with Internet access.” This is just a minute problem and you can deal with it - after all, you are being spontaneous. Too bad a moment later when you ask for a room without making prior reservations the German hotel clerk tells you that the hotel is booked. She does point you in the direction of a German youth hostel - the only other place available at such short notice. You have heard about these places. Lots of kids, noise, late nights, maybe extra fees, and definitely not the comfort you were looking for. You know the night will not pass quickly enough and you will have nightmares about your first German hotel experience. Maybe next time you will think twice about being so spontaneous and you’ll make reservations for the next German city…immediately!
