Valentine’s Day. You either love it or you hate it. Maybe you hate it because you were the only kid in class that never got any Valentine’s in grade school. Or maybe it’s your favorite holiday because you love chocolate, candy hearts and champagne. (Ok, well, who doesn’t?) Our Innovative Language Learning office seems to be split right down the middle with lovers and haters, so we wanted to try something new that would make everyone happy this year.
In today’s news, you’ll hear about how you can save 28% on our best subscription options and take part in our Valentine’s Day social experiment. You’ll also learn some important Valentine’s Day expressions with our Valentine’s Day video. If you think it’s just going to be a saccharine sweet ode to cupid, think again. You might be surprised at how wicked we can be.

Todays Intermediate lessons presents you a song by a not all that well known German band. Even within Germany they are considered as less famous and independent, which is partly because of the cross of mediavel and rock music they play. You might want to check them out. They have some very good songs. They even touched on some more recent topics, like HIV. This one has a more classic topic. Which one? Well, listen in and find out.
Of cause you can - as always - find an excerpt of today’s song at Amazon.com. Americans can also buy a legal mp3 of the full song right there; international visitors will have to go to 7digital instead.

Learn German with GermanPod101.com! You’ve stopped at a Turkish restaurant in Germany with your German friend. Your friend orders a something called a doner, but you’re in the mood for something different. “Which dish are you going to order?” your friend asks in German. After looking over the menu, you reply in German, “I’ll have a vegetarian Turkish pizza.” “You know that Turkish pizza is never completely vegetarian, don’t you?” your friend notes in German. “What?” you exclaim. “Why is it called that then?” Your friend replies that while the toppings are all vegetarian, Turkish pizza always has meat sauce. “Oh, okay,” you say. “Well, I’ll have it anyway, since I’m not a vegetarian.” But you wonder…how many vegetarians have ordered Turkish pizza, blissfully unaware that they’re about to eat meat?
Learning German with GermanPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn German! This German lesson teaches you how to use the German form of “which,” as in “Which bus should we take?” We’ll also talk a bit about Turkish food (where “vegetarian” doesn’t always mean what we think it does) and about vegetarianism in Germany.
