2. The First Day of the Lovely Month of May…

Is also a national public holiday in Germany. For Germans, there are many things to celebrate - welcoming in the warmer weather, May Day and Labor Day. May Day celebrations involve dancing around a wooden pole covered with flowers and ribbons, called a Maibaum. This tradition is especially popular in Bavaria. In Munich a permanent Maibaum stands at the Viktualienmarkt.
