In reality, it's an "English" word that a German coined, and it's by far not the only one. English is so fashionable that people will go out of their way to use English or supposedly-English words in their language, and that's called Denglisch. Learn all about this new German language with GermanPod101 today!

And he is about to face a rather unhappy Michaela about it. Will she give the dog to someone who is unreasonable enough to have it send by mail?
We are also going to touch another really vital grammar point: the German words können und wollen. Or in English can and want. You can use them everywhere. You can talk about your abilities and needs. You can use them to talk about surprising changes, too. For example: “I can come home early today.” which would be “Ich kann heute eher nach Hause kommen”.
That is a lot for just one lesson right? Not to forget: we will also talk about German pets.

Today we'll cover the city of Constance, situated at Lake Constance. This is one of not too many German cities whose oldtown remained mostly intact after the second world war; a great place to enjoy the Fachwerkhäuser and old architecture. Ready to take a trip? Nena sang it in English, too, but the original German version is a lot more expressive.
This lesson features a lot of useful German vocabulary, some of it colloquial, and it introduces the German Präteritum (preterite past tense).

Nena sang it in English, too, but the original German version is a lot more expressive. This lesson features a lot of useful German vocabulary, some of it colloquial, and it introduces the German Präteritum (preterite past tense).

Join us today to learn about this beautiful German-speaking part of the world and then don't forget to visit it on your trip to the area!

Learn of the many links that exist between Germany and America, and how Germans helped shape America as it is today. GermanPod101's audio blogs help you improve your German at an advanced level, but also they give you valuable cultural knowledge and background information on topics important in the German-speaking world.
