Have you been to those beautiful, majestic old buildings whose only flaw it is that they have many stairs and no elevator? Berlin is particularly rich in those. One of them is Berlin’s big cathedral, the Berliner Dom, and today Sarah will tell us about her visit to this must-see sight.

GermanPod101’s advanced audio blogs are intended for advanced learners of German and hence use the German language exclusively, no English. If your level of German is not good enough yet, consult the transcript and the translation in the PDF as you listen, and you’ll be sure to pick up new words and phrases to enrich your knowledge of German!

I have a doubt on the following phrase:
>.
Is this using the present tense for an action taking place in the past ?

I have a doubt on the following phrase:

Letztens wollte ich mit Freunden den Berliner Dom besichtigen und zur Plattform der 70
Meter hohen Kuppel steigen

Is this using the present tense for an action taking place in the past ?

Thanks

Judith says:

“wollte” is past tense, the other two verbs are infinitives depending on “wollte”.

The present tense of “wollen” is “ich will”.

Hope that helps.
