Learn German with GermanPod101.com! There absolutely could not be a more beautiful day than today. The weather is perfect, the sun is shining, and you are in Germany! Even the birds seem to notice what a great day you are having! As you casually stroll along a park in Berlin on your way to meet a friend, the beauty of the day overwhelms you. As you reach the café in your dreamy state, your friend looks at you questioningly as you approach and asks in German, “Are you okay?” Bursting with the excitement of the day, you begin to tell her in German all about how beautiful the day has been. However, when you get to the part about the birds singing, you stop abruptly at a complete loss for the appropriate German words. Again, noticing the sudden disappointment on your face, your friend asks in German, “You still okay?” Deeply saddened by your inability to express the beauty of the swans in the pond or the beautiful peacock with its colorful display that you experienced today, you drop your head and answer in German, “Well, there were these birds, and they were pretty.” Your friend looks at you as if you have lost your mind, replying in German, “Oh, that’s nice.” Another lost opportunity… Learning German with GermanPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn German! Not a good Friday. There is no pdf for the video. The video is full of errors. This must be done again. It is embarrassing. There is a misspelling of “will” as “weill”. The reader is reading the wrong dialog for 2 out of three of the animals. While the peacock is showing she is reading the sentence about the swan and while the rooster is showing she is reading the lines about the crow. This is both in the teaching section and the quiz. As a teacher I know this is the worst possible error. Student seem to fix on errors and learn them better than the correct material. It is better to delay posting if you cannot meet the schedule than to display shoddy work.
Back to the pdf. I really like have a few extra sample sentences using the words in the video. My overall experience with GermanPod 101 is a good one. Thanks for some great lessons.

I am sorry, Thomas. The mistakes made in the video vocab lessons are very embarrassing for me. Yet I can’t fix them because the Berlin team is not at all involved in this series; it’s produced centrally in Tokyo.

Thanks for the response. I should have guessed that you had nothing to do with the shoddy video. I appreciate the careful detail that you bring to the lessons you supervise. I’m just a beginner in German, but I am having fun listening to you and Chuck present insights that one doesn’t find elsewhere. In the future I will send my critical comments on the video to Innovative Language Learning direct. Thanks again.

Dear Marco,

I notice that the video for this lesson that was posted on You Tube has been corrected. Perhaps you can link to that one. I am glad to see you are making an effort to correct this.

Sincerely, Thomas Rike
