Learn German with GermanPod101.com! After a long day of work, you and some German colleagues decide to gather at a popular German pub to relax and kick off the weekend. You are new to the company so your new German colleagues are asking you many questions and in turn, you are asking them several questions. They now learned where you are from and they think you speak German pretty well considering you have not been in Germany long. When you ask one of your colleagues where he is from, he replies in German, “I am a Berliner.” You look at him oddly and reply in German, “I don’t get it. You are a jelly donut?” The table gets quiet and then everyone begins to laugh loudly. You are still befuddled and think your colleague is playing a joke on you. When your colleague finally calms down, he replies in German, “You must either be REALLY hungry, or you still need some serious practice with your German!!” By the end of the night, your German colleagues have given you the well-earned nickname of the “German jelly donut.” What a name to live up to!
