Learn German with GermanPod101.com! You’ve just had your first successful interview in Germany. Now it’s time to relax at a restaurant with your German friend - his treat! Although you feel like your heart is still thumping two hundred beats a minute, you turn down the offer to look at an English menu and instead opt to make sense of the German one. You pore over the drinks menu, surprised at how much German you understand. Watching you read the German menu, your friend comments in German, “Those German lessons are really paying off.” The waitress approaches your table and asks in German, “Can I get you a refreshing drink tonight gentlemen?” Although you’d love to order a double whiskey on the rocks to calm your nerves, you settle for a pilsner, a popular type of beer in Germany. And your friend opts for the much milder Apple spritzer…which means, he’ll be driving home. Suddenly, you feel excited again, as you ask your friend in German, “Ooh, can I get a heart-pounding, exhilarating tour of the autobahn on the way home?”

Normalerweise trinke ich gerne ein Bier. Aber wenn ich mein Auto fahren muss, trinke ich eine Cola.

Interesting thing: spritzer is similiar to the Austrian g’spritzer. Apfelshorle or insertdrink-Schorle (Weinschorle for example) is Obi g’spritzt (Obi is a brand of apple juice. Like you would say Tempo for tissue) or weißer g’spritzt (Weißweinschorle).
