Learn German with GermanPod101.com! Well, you only have yourself to blame. You thought you were being so clever by making your employees work late so you could catch the hottest soccer game in Germany. After spending hours making up for what they didn’t accomplish, you finally arrive at the investors meeting…somewhat prepared. You make an attempt at small talk in German, “Maybe you would like a coffee…” The investor abruptly cuts you off and barks in German, “Water, please.” Okay…this is not going well. You try again with a big smile on your face, you ask just as politely as you can in German, “Don’t you think the weather is unseasonable warm this year?” The investor spins in her chair, looks you square in your eyes and very calmly, but sternly repeats in German, “I do not wish to have small talk or drinks, chat about the weather, or get to know you better. Let’s start now, please.” Is this how your employees feel when you talk to them? You have to remember to be more polite in making suggestions in German…

Can you recall a situation in which you were VERY impatient? Can you say something about it in German?

Another great lesson guys. It’s curious that you didn’t use the word impatient in the dialogue. I just want to say that I really benefit from you guys making the dialogue accessible from the MP3 player. Being able to take a quick look and then listen helps a lot with comprehension and then with writing.

Glad you like it. The word for impatient is “ungeduldig” and it’s not very frequent, that’s why we didn’t teach it. It’s a lot more common for people to be impatient than for them to talk about it.

I think that’s the most German I’ve ever tried writing at once. Danke für die Geduld mit meinem Deutsch und mit alle uns hier in Germanpod101.
