Die Berliner Mauer war lange Zeit ein greifbares Symbol für die Teilung Deutschlands. Noch immer sind Teile von ihr sichtbar. Und ihr Vorhandsein hat die deutsche Geschichte nachhaltig geprägt. The Berlin Wall was a palpable sign of the division of Germany. Some parts are still visible. And her presence had a lasting effect on German History.

Todays song has a very unique history. Many Germans beliefe “Über Sieben Brücken mußt du gehen” was originally recorded by Peter Maffay. But the truth is, that it was recorded by the band Karat, who where famous in the former DDR and still give well received concerts to this day. Peter Maffay covered the song for the western Part of the seperated Germany and was very successful with this. Still, Germans love for this song unified them long before the borders were opened again.

Während die Spuren der Teilung mittlerweile nur noch an wenigen Orten sichtbar sind, ist dieser Teil der Geschichte in den Köpfen der Menschen immer noch präsent. While the traced of the division can only be seen at very few places by now, this part of history is still present in the minds of the people.
