What is the difference in use between “die Zahlen” and ” die Nummer”?

GermanPod101.com says:

“die Zahlen” = the numbers (die Zahl)
“die Nummer” = the digit / the number

One is plural, the other not. Also, “die Zahlen” refers to the numbers in a maths context, whereas “die Nummer” would be something like an ID, if referring to several digits.
