I’m sure you know the situation: you’re listening to the radio, or maybe you’re sitting in a café, and suddenly a song intrigues you. You have to find out what song it is, but who can you ask? This is exactly what happens to our two German protagonists, Lena and Michael. Today they are comparing musical tastes - do you think Lena will like Rammstein?
Also, join us in discussing German music. This lesson’s cultural point gives you an overview of what German bands/singers might currently be worth checking out.

Have you tried German music? What bands or singers do you like?
My favorite german singer is Yvonne Catterfeld.
I also like Ich und Ich.
I’m afraid my german music culture leaves much to be desired… But to answer Chick’s question at the very beginning of the podcast, I’d rather have Wagner than Rammstein.. Sorry …
I really love Tokio Hotel. I have to say it. I know all you guys are probably rolling your eyes- but…
oh, and ps,
I like Rammstein and Wagner both!
id like it best if youd keep both, and if anything please dont get rid of the jingle?
I think that when discussing new vocabulary, it would be nice if you always gave us the article that came with each noun. It seemed like this only happened a few times, and I thought it would help as the importance of learning the article is always emphasized.
With so much great music from Germany and German speaking people, I have to say that I was surprised that Rammstein wrote the GPod101 theme! How about a version in the style of Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Bach…
Great jobs, guys! great podcast as always
my favorite bands are Wir Sind Helden; I just love nur ein wort. I have only one song by Die Prinzen: Millionar. I trying to find more (did you guys mention them?)
anyways, i love the Rammstein at the beginning of the podcast! I like going “EIN, ZWEI, DREI.” i say keep it!
Haha Im not rolling my eyes! I really like Tokio Hotel.
I stumbled upon them in a People magazine and basically fell in love.
They are coming to San Francisco, which is very close to me!!!
I am so excited, and hope to get into the front row.
Wow sorry for blabbing but I am SO excited.
Personally, I don’t like the, EIN, ZWEI, DREI part.
Everything else is good though.
But its just the theme song, it doesn’t make or break the podcast.
The podcast is great!!!!!!!
It is one of my favorites, and I like how you explain what you are saying.
I tried a different podcast before this, and the teachers babbled on and on in german, and I had no idea what they were saying.
Congratulations, because this is a fantastic podcast.
ICH LIEBE GERMANPOD101.COM!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m a big fan of German power metal: blind guardian, helloween, gamma ray, grave digger, freedom call, rage, axxis, edguy!!
So many great bands are actually from Germany. But they all sing in English!
Tokio Hotel is my favorite German band, but I also like Falco and Nena
At first I thought the Rammstein in the beginning of the podcast was an odd choice, but now I must admit, I look forward to it. At the moment, I like Die Fantastischen Vier. I remember Falco and Yello from high school, and the beautiful German foreign exchange student boy who introduced them to me:)
I love the podcasts! I had six years of German but many years ago now. My teacher was from Kassel but she had lived in the US a long time, so unlike these lessons, many of her culture lessons were dated. When I hear the lessons for the first time, I sometimes know a different word for something and I am wondering if it is because I learned an older style of German.
Anyway, thank you for the lessons. I am enjoying Judith and Chuck:)
(sorry to post twice, but…) You guys talk about Country and Shania Twain and how you said she would consider Pop in Germany. Well, most of American Country is starting to become more like Pop; Also some of it would be consider Rap.
Never apologize for posting!
It’s great to see so much positive feedback, it makes our day
By the way, in less than one hour the first lesson of the new intermediate series (German through songs) will be released!
Teri, feel free to ask about any expressions you learned that don’t correspond to what we teach. In German there are a lot of ways of phrasing things, but often one phrasing will sound more antiquated or formal than the other.
I want to destroy my first post in this lesson cuz i’ve been crazy about Tokio Hotel since about 2 months ago. Now I only like them and listen them!
Tokio Hotel is the best!
Ich mag nur Tokio Hotel!
Siena, i loooove yuor Bill kaulitz avatar!
I’lll probably change my tokio hotel avatar to a Bill Kaulitz avatar too hahaha, since he’s my favorite! Luv him!
