When visiting German-speaking friends, you may find yourself left out in conversations if you don’t have one vital skill: to engage in extended small talk. Not just the typical “How are you?” or introducing yourself, but actually having a somewhat meaningful conversation about what is happening in your life, at work or at school.
In this newbie lesson (the 50th GermanPod101 lesson, woohoo!) you will learn how. Join Michael and Lena as they chit-chat in German at the café Antabli! You will also learn another really useful German verb: müssen. Don’t miss this lesson!

How are your studies going or how is your work? What do you expect to hear discussed next?
Congratulations on the 50th podcast !!!!
The university system in France is much the same. I got caught up in the traditonal system / Bachelor system transition too, in a science degree I used to study for on top of medical school… nobody knew what the new rules were !!! Quite awful… As it is, as I was listening to today’s lesson, I was on my way to the university to get the (paper) diploma for a part of this degree that I took almost 7 years ago !!! (good thing nobody asked me for this paper before…)
I really like the way you teach german. Please keep on like this !!! Will there be other intermediate/advanced level lessons apart from the blogs ?
Thanks
Yes, there will be an intermediate series teaching German through music shortly, we just had some problems figuring out copyright issues. The idea is that you’ll discover popular German songs and singers, while learning more vocabulary and grammar from the the lyrics. I believe this will be another very enjoyable way of learning German, because people often find themselves knowing the words of a song by heart, without having studied hard.
Hi guys i hope you are doing well!
LOL i thought it was kind of mean of Chuck to interrupt Judith and say See you next week! haha , but it was a fun lesson as always!
i live in Canada and i’m off to college too in September. but i’m planning on transferring to University after my 2 years are finished. and i want to do that in Germany (after really improving my German by then of course!
)
Can you please explain a little about international students and those who wish to continue education in Germany?
Thanks a lot! i really enjoy your lessons and the Cultural sights in the end. I have started listening to the Advanced audio blogs and i feel that my listening is pretty good and i can understand most things Judith says!
keep up the good work!
auf Wiederhören
